Confetti Quilt Sew Along Along - Week 1
Welcome to Week 1 of the Confetti Quilt Sew Along. I am really excited you have decided to join in and make your very own Confetti Quilt. This Quilt Along is designed to be casual and relaxed so that you can have heaps of fun, meet new quilty friends and be inspired by all the #confettiquilt that will be made during the Quilt Along.

Week 1 - Selecting your Fabric
This weeks task is all about selecting and choosing the fabric you would like to make your Quilt from. Post a pic to Instagram, using the above hash tags of your fabric pull or quilt planning to show us what you will be making your Confetti Quilt from and to be in the running for this weeks prizes.
This is where the sky is the limit - whether you choose Solids or Prints this quilt works. You can grab fabrics from your stash or use a collection.
If you are looking for inspiration for fabrics then head to the #confettiquilt hash tag. There you will see lots of different fabrics that have been used so far to make Confetti Quilts.
Solids
Solids work so well for this Quilt and the choices of different Fabric Company Solids is huge. One way to do this is head over to Pinterest and search Colour Palettes - this gives you lots of boards with a selection of colours already that co-ordinate and work well together. From here you can pick and choose solids for any colour palette you like.
Prints
For this quilt - multi directional prints work best and are easiest. Geometrics work well as well as smaller scale prints.
Scrappy
This design also works perfectly to pull fabrics from your stash if you want to go with a scrappy vibe.
Cutting your Fabrics
Now that you have chosen your fabrics, this week is also all about cutting into them. So let's have a chat about anything you need to take into consideration before chopping them up.
As the pattern calls for Fat Quarters from your print/coloured fabrics. Here is how I cut up my FQ's to avoid wastage or not having the required number of pieces.
HOT TIP - With your background fabric, I like to roll the yardage onto a spare empty bolt. You can ask you ask your Local Quilt store for a spare empty cardboard bolt that is used to store fabric on. Rolling your yardage onto a bolt makes for easy cutting of the yardage which you can roll off and cut from the bolt.
For the Confetti Quilt I am making, I am using Warp and Weft by @allexiamarcelleabegg for Ruby Star Society. These fabrics are yarn dye fabrics which means they have a much looser weave than regular 100% quilting cotton. To help make the fabrics nice and easier to work with I have sprayed all of the fabrics with Best Press first. This is a starch and basically makes the fabric much stiffer so that when I cut them there is little movement of the fibres that make up the fabric. This will also help with when I sew them together. Finer fabrics such as Tana Lawn, thin cotton or Loose weave Yarn Dyes are best to starch before cutting and quilting with them.

Confetti Quilt Sew Along - Week 2
What an amazing start we have gotten off to with the Confetti Quilt Sew Along - it is so exciting to see so many fabric pulls and cut out quilts block pieces showing up already. I am seriously in love with lots of these that they make me want to make another one - or ten! Have you checked out the #confettiquiltsewalong and #confettiquilt hashtags?
I know how excited everyone is to have cut out your fabrics and are now ready to get started on sewing together all your blocks. This week we are aiming to sew together the first 4 rows of your Confetti Quilt.
Week 2 - Putting together blocks for Rows 1 -4
This week we are starting to make our blocks for Rows 1 - 4. That means you are aiming to make 48 blocks. The Confetti Quilt has been designed with beginner quilters in mind. For this very specific purpose the blocks are constructed so that the points of the blocks do NOT align perfectly. There will be a seam allowance space when the blocks are sewn together and this is so you can focus on enjoying sewing rather than any need or idea that it has to be about perfect points. Trimming of the blocks allow for wriggle soon so that if your sewing is slightly off - trimming them to size will make all the difference and hide any imperfections.
Basically this is a quilt to be enjoyed, fuss free of any perfect points matching required.
I have taken some photos here below of how you will be moving through making the blocks. These are additional support to the pattern instructions and illustrations.
So you can see above how after sewing the seams together when you put the rows together that they points will not match - and that is meant to be the case.
Here is a pic of one of my finished quilts with the pic close up and then how you can't even notice the effect in the larger picture. Which I think is where some people get "stuck" or second guess themselves and the pattern on if the points have to match.

Confetti Quilt Sew Along - Week 3
It's Week 3 of the Confetti Quilt Sew Along - we are at the halfway mark and it is very exciting to see lots of Quilts starting to come together and all these beautiful fabric choices becoming gorgeous Confetti Quilt tops.
This week we are working on sewing up Rows 5-8.
I know that with this pattern there are the scraps that are leftover from trimming. The reason behind the scraps is because this pattern gives you the wriggle room in allowing you to trim your blocks and without the need for the points to match when you are sewing the blocks. This was designed this way with beginner quilters in mind and there are lots of great things you can do with your scraps.
There are so many projects you can make with your leftover scraps. Here are 4 fabulous ideas for them.

Confetti Quilt Sew Along - Week 4
I can't believe we are getting so close to the end of the Confetti Quilt Sew Along. I have been so inspired by all the different and personal stories behind your choices for which fabrics you went with and how so many of these Quilts have an owner eagerly awaiting its finish.
This week we are working on finishing up your last few rows - that is Rows 9-12 as well as sewing all the rows together (if you haven't done so already). Our aim by the end of this week is to have a completed Quilt Top.
I am looking forward to seeing your Quilt tops all finished and then beginning to think about Quilting options as well as Binding for our final week of the Confetti Quilt Sew Along. Next week I will be sharing some short Video Tutorials for Binding.

Confetti Quilt Sew Along - Week 5
Well I can't believe we have come to the final week of the Confetti Quilt Sew Along. I am beyond humbled by all those who have joined in and for all the love this pattern of mine has been shown. A massive thank you to you all for your support - it really does mean so much to me.
So this week is all abut getting your Confetti Quilt Top ready for Quilting, and Binding and being able to then finish it up. I have put together some tips and links below which I hope will help you with the decisions for this next part of the process with how you will finish it.
QUILTING DECISIONS
When it comes to deciding on how to Quilt your Quilt - you have lots of options.
Quilt It Yourself - for those keen to quilt your own Quilt there are lots of ways you can tackle this. You can simply quilt tram lines either sides of all the seam lines for simple but effective quilting. You can get as adventurous as you like with Free Motion Quilting or even more detailed straight line quilting. Or how about Cross-Hatching over the entire quilt or even using a Large Zig Zag stitch without needing a lot of experience.
For those wanting to give Free-Motion Quilting a go or already are familiar with this Technique, check out this Blog Post I wrote all about Machine Quilting. I hope this gives you some helpful tips.

Send it to a Professional - you can send your quilt to a Long Arm quilter who can either do and Edge to Edge Design or Custom Quilt your finished Quilt.
BINDING YOUR QUILT
Once you have your Quilt all Quilted - now you can turn your attention to Binding your Quilt. There are so many Tutorials for how to bind you Quilt if you Google.
I have put together a Tutorial on how to work the Binding continuously around the corner when you sew it onto the top of your Quilt - its a small but very helpful and useful way to sew your Binding all on in one go. Check it out here
